It is officially the most wonderful time of the year! We are determined to make the most out of every day this month – from participating in Christmas activities to volunteering and more. So we thought we’d share some of our ideas for you and your family to utilize. Beginning today, December 1st, all the way up to Christmas, we’ll provide you each week with enough to keep you busy with at least one endeavor per a day. So HO, HO, HO, here we go! Seven things to do for the next week…
Visit a Christmas Parade – This one is at the top of our list because it all begins TONIGHT! Starting with Rehoboth Beach this evening at 6:30pm, there are numerous events this week.
Rehoboth Christmas Parade – December 1st from 6:30-8pm
Georgetown Christmas Parade – December 3rd at 7pm
Milford Holiday Stroll – December 4th at 5pm
Pick out a tree – We always had fake trees for our Christmas celebration, but this year my husband and I are “branching out…” (Pun intended!) What an incredible tradition to begin with your family! Stop by a local tree farm and hand select your very own tree to take home and decorate. Make an entire day out of it and grab hot chocolate on the way. When you get home, decorate and enjoy the fresh smell of pine needles! (I hear there’s nothing like it.)
Here’s a few tree farms around Sussex County that you can try:
Parsons Bros Tree Farm: 28066 John J Williams Highway, Millsboro, DE 19966
Dons Tree Farms: 6396 Hickman Road, Greenwood, DE 19950
Make Christmas Cookies – This is an easy endeavor but is also sure to be memorable. You might need a few kiddos around to make this a special memory. Grab yours or borrow some nieces, nephews or grandkids! It’ll get messy, but it’ll also be an experience you and the kids will never forget. You don’t have to get fancy, just buy cookie dough, a few Christmas cookie cutters and some icing. Let everyone decorate their own creations!
Write Christmas Cards – Get festive and play Christmas music, while you and your loved ones sit down and compile a list of friends and family members that you want to send cards to! Make an assembly line if you have help, with someone stamping, addressing, stuffing and sealing! It’s amazing how a big job like sending out Christmas cards can feel like so much fun when you make it special!
Pick Out A Pillow – You can substitute the word “pillow” for anything. But for my husband and I who are newlyweds and just beginning to collect Christmas decorations, we have to start somewhere! Lately we’ve been eyeing these gorgeous pillows at the Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth. We’ve decided that once a week we’d make a trip over to purchase one special pillow, Nutcracker or various decorations to add to our home. So load up and set out to find a treasure! Then bring it home and experience the satisfaction of adding it to your growing holiday collection!
Watch a Holiday Movie – That’s right, grab your favorite snacks, snag some hot chocolate and eggnog, light the fire, then press play! You can’t go wrong starting with the classics such as It’s a Wonderful Life or White Christmas!
Do Some Good Deeds – I recently saw a list of nice deeds that you can do for others during the holidays. You could easily make it like a scavenger hunt and bring some friends along. The ones who get the whole list done first, win! The loosing team has to buy the winning team hot cocoa! Here are a few items that were on our list. You can create many more yourself! Tape change to a vending machine, Compliment a stranger, Candy Cane flood a parking lot, Leave a Happy note for someone to find and pick up litter.
