The 4th of July is upon us! This coming Monday is Independence Day where we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from 1776. It was the beginning of the thirteen colonies declaring that they were indeed an independent nation, and it’s what started America on the path that we now find ourself on today. An incredible country of freedom and liberty for all, where all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Pretty incredible right? On top of all the technical reasons we celebrate this holiday, we also see it as a time of summer festivities with family. Hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon and fireworks usually go hand in hand with Fourth of July parties. So while you’re making plans to cook out and buying all of the cute paper plates and napkins with stars and stripes on them, we’ve done some of the research for you on local happenings occurring on Monday. These festivities are sure to be the cherry on top of an already fun day with friends and family.
1) Lewes’ Annual Doo Dah Parade – Lewes has an entire day planned of old fashioned fun, starting at 9am. Games for children will be set up all the way down 2nd street, followed by a boat parade down the canal. To wrap the day up, at 5pm, the Doo Dah Parade takes place. There will be plenty of food, fun and games for the entire family, all day long!
2) United States Navy Concert – If you’re looking for some evening entertainment once the BBQ and apple pie has all been consumed, head to the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand to listen to the US Navy Concert Band perform from 8:00-9:15pm. Known as one of the finest wind ensembles in the world, this band will be performing patriotic numbers as well as a variety of marches and more. This is sure to be a very appropriate and perfect way to end Independence Day!
3) Fourth of July in Milton – If you live a little closer to Milton, then you’re in luck! Starting at 10am, the city will be hosting a public picnic with a lot of exciting activities that you’d except on such an occasion, such as: pie baking contests, a dunk tank, sack races and more! There will be numerous food vendors out with a variety of options for you and the family, just incase you don’t feel like doing all the cooking.
4) Dewey Beach Fireworks – It’s just not a true Independence Day without fireworks. You can eat all the watermelon you want and wear red, white and blue from head to toe… but if the day doesn’t end with a big bang in the sky, then you’ve been jilted. Fortunately, thanks to the city of Dewey Beach, you don’t have to know the pain that is a 4th of July without fireworks. Starting at 9pm on the bayside, fireworks will be set off from a barge in the bay, making it visible from every point on Dewey Beach!
