We’ve talked about Italian restaurants before, but this one is a high contender for our list of favorites. Touch of Italy has been in Rehoboth since 2010 and started as a business between two families that traced their historical ties back to two regions in Italy. Using traditions and tastes passed down through the generations, these families have incorporated it all into the food served at “Touch of Italy” in Rehoboth Beach. There are five locations in all, including: Ocean City, Downtown Lewes and Bethany Beach.
The Rehoboth location is at 19724 Coastal Highway and its hours of operation are Sunday to Thursday, 10:30am to 10pm, and Friday through Saturday, 10:30am to 10:30pm.
As a frequent visitor to their bakery side of the restaurant, let me tell you that the pastries and cookies alone are worth a trip. All homemade and true to their Italian origins, these sweets are treats indeed in the Pasticceria. I’ve personally tried the amoretto cookies and rainbow cake amongst many others. The cookies were so packed full of flavor that each bite caused plenty of excited exclamations from every person we shared them with. The rainbow cake was the traditional colors of the Italian flag with layers of cake, fruit filling and chocolate on top. Trust me, that was just 2 of numerous desserts. You can’t go wrong with any choice. Add a glass of wine or a cup of coffee.
My favorite experience, however, was chatting with an Italian lady behind the Pasticceria register. She told us about how the restaurant cures their own meats, which are for sell in the Salumeria, which means, “cured meat shop.” She recollected years of watching her father run his own meat shop when she was a little girl and how much time was spent working in his shop. It completed our Italian experience from head to toe one evening after having dinner with my husband on one of our dates.
No matter what though, on top of the cookies and cured meats, we always save room for a good old fashioned Italian pizza. The menu is of course true to its name, featuring well known dishes such as Gnocchi, Ravioli, Chicken Parmigian, Calzones, a variety of pizzas, Italian soups and salads. If you live in the area, do yourselves a favor and take a family trip to Touch of Italy!
