Tea Time in Rehoboth

Open 7 days a week from 10 am until 10 pm, the Tea and Spice Exchange in Rehoboth Beach is always entertaining customers. A bustle of activity usually welcomes you upon entering the rustic looking shop near Rehoboth’s boardwalk. Large shelves towards the front of the store, hold glass jars filled with every spice and seasoning mixture you could ever imagine! Each old fashioned jar has a label on the front, hinting at the deliciousness housed inside, all sealed with a round cork. Atop every jar hangs small plastic packs of seasoning, for those that want samples of what interests them. Shoppers are encouraged to grab jars, pry open the container and take whiffs of what lays inside. Tantalizing and strong scents fill the atmosphere as jars are opened all day long, to discover the culinary treasures that are held within. Rubs and blends come in all sorts of categories, including chef series, olive oil blends, grinder blends, meat rubs, cultural blends, specialty, curries and arabic, and even salt free! There is something for everyone.

Mixed in amongst the selections of spices and rubs, you’ll find salts like Ghost Pepper sea salt, bacon smoked sea salt and Fleur de Sel, as well as peppers like Habanero Pepper and Ancho pepper powder to name a few. Grains and olive oil and extracts are also displayed in various forms and options. This is certainly not your average stop at Wal-Mart to grab a few things for the cub-bard. Whether you’re a beginner or master chef, these ingredients will be sure to excite you and propel you towards the kitchen. (We speak from experience.)
    Black-Chocolate-TeaBlack Chocolate Tea

Once you walk past the spices, the entire rear end of the store holds gourmet loose leaf glass containers of tea. For our tea lovers, this is the spot to grab unique and bold flavors for any occasion. Sure, they off traditional teas like Earl Grey, but thrown into the mix you’ll find adventurous sorts such as: Blood-Orange Smoothie, Cinnamon Plum, Coconut Oolong and Mystic Dragon Tea. Among the best sellers in the store are: Black Chocolate, Green Tropical, Blueberry Black, Ginger Turmeric, Emperor’s Chai and Hazelnut Cookie Tea. Just starting out on your tea experience? The store comes equipped with every tea accessory and tool you could ever need. Infusers, filters, spoons, mints, sugar sticks and tea mugs are just a few. Many of the items make great gifts for that tea drinker in your family. Infusers come in all shapes, sizes and designs, and uniquely designed tea pitchers make the process a lot more flavorful and convenient.
    Salted Caramel Sugar
Sitting behind it all, against the back wall, are shelves holding the cherries to top of it all. Flavored sugars! It is a relatively new trend, but one that we’re super excited about. Some of the bestsellers are: Salted Caramel, Sweet Onion, Blueberry, Rasberry, Ginger, Coconut, Espresso, Lemon, Habanero and Dark Cocoa Sugar. We’re told by the employees there that these sugars can hold a variety of uses for your baking and cooking needs. Sprinkle them on top of whip cream in your coffee, toss them on top of your pancakes, or cook them into some of your desserts. The possibilities are endless. And the best part is, if you have any questions whatsoever, the staff has always proven to be most knowledgeable about the products they sell.
For detailed descriptions of products, without even visiting the store, you can check out the Tea and Spice Exchanges website at spiceandtea.com. There you will find a long (and we mean super lengthy) list of every food product and accessory they sell. You can also find recipes, coupons, directions and nutrition and allergen information. Can you tell we’re impressed?
