The Apple of Our Eye: Fifer’s in Camden

FIFER ORCHARDS – Farm & Country Store
    1919 Allabands Mill Rd
    Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934

Ok, so I have to admit that in the past, I’ve only been ever so slightly excited for the fall. After all, I used to live in Florida, so October was just as hot as the previous months. Now that I live on the East Coast near Rehoboth Beach, things have definitely changed! There is so much excitement in the air with the impending break in the weather and all of the fall activities being prepared!

One of the most incredible experiences that my husband and I just embarked on was an apple-picking trip to Fifer’s Orchard in Camden, DE. Just a few Saturdays ago, some friends, family, my husband and I decided to give Fifer’s a try. When we pulled in, immediately we noticed a larger Country General Store filled with goodies and packed with people making purchases. We moseyed around and then made our way to the apple picking station outside. There you can purchase various sizes of bags to put your apples in. The price changes according to what size you desire, with the smallest bag starting at $8. From there you load up on a huge wagon. It is made to feel like a hayride, but has actually seats built in for comfortable seating. The ride takes you out to where the orchards are and you are able to dismount and start your picking! As you can imagine the scenery is just lovely and you feel transported back into time. Being able to walk through the rows of trees and pick your own fruit gave such a happy and contented feeling. Now THIS is life – cell phones put away, no TV or noise, just the breeze whipping through trees and sunlight warming your back. If you want to make memories with your friends and family, this is the place to do it!

The best part is that while apple picking is open throughout the apple harvest, there are special treats and events just for the fall! Fifer just opened up its very own “U-Pick” pumpkin patch. The pumpkin patch is open during Country Store hours, from 8am-6pm. So grab your carver and paint, head to Fifers and then create! There is also a 6 acre corn maze open from 10am to 5pm and a huge “Super Straw” slide for the kid in you. (I definitely told my husband we needed to come back for a date!) Corn Maze tickets are $8 for youth ages 2-17, $5 for adults 18-69 and children under 2 as well as adults 70 and up are free! The country store filled with homemade jams, apple butter, apple donuts, apple cider and goodies is on site and open from 8am until 6pm. Other activities are available as well, such as pony rides, farm animal exhibits, hayrides, face painting, bounces and more. Individual tickets can be purchased for $1 each. I’m excited even thinking about it! The next free Saturday we have, I am making plans to be there!

We had fall festivals in Florida, but nothing like this; That is just one of the thousands of reasons why I have loved relocating to the east coast. The area we live in is chock full of personality, warmth and charm. Fifer’s Orchard is just one of the many venues that offer countless memories and life moments for locals.
